CHAPTER I
DISCUSSION
A.
Definition film
film’s idiosyncratic modes of
presentation – such as camer angle, editing, montage, slow, and fast motion-
often parallel features of literary texts or can be explained within a textual
framework. The most obvisious difference between film and drama is the fact
that a film is recorded and preserved rather than individually staged in the
unique and un repeatable manner of a theather perfomances.
Film and particularly video tapes ,
are like novels, which in teory can be repeatly read , or viewed. A film , on
the other hand , it takes on a completely dfferent character in film, due to
the idiosyncrasies of a mechanically reproducesible medium
a. Spatial
dimention
1. Lighting

indirectly connected to film stock for certain light condition have to fulfilled
accrding to the sensitivy of the film
2. Editing
Is
one major cinematic tecniques which have contributed to the flexibility of the
medium.
3. Camera
As
important consideration , for example , if a character is supposed to appear

4. Framing

elements are summarized under the french term mise-en-mise (to place on stage)
b. Temporal
dimension
Film, like literature , can employ the
dimension of time in a variety of ways. The specific qualities of the medium
enable treatment of time waysthat do not exist in other genres.the film is
divide into three independent episodes which are connected by a number of time
indicators.
c. Acoustic
dimension
The acoustic aspect was added to film .
informationwas no longer conveyed marely by means of visual effects such as
fasial expression , gestures or subtitle, but also through language (dialogue
or monologue) , recordered music and
sound effect.
Beside dialogue and sound effect , film
music assumes a special position and usually supports the plot, volume,
sound, rhythm and pace of the music change according to the situation and
underscore levels of meaning with acoustics effects. Film music can also contrast
with the plotand create ironic or parodistic effects. Plot may be supported by
the conventional and inconspicous use of music and sound effects, or the action
may be defamiliarized by contrasting the levels of meaning and content with the
acoustics levels.
